Scope of Practice

Baseline Psychotherapy provides structured online psychotherapy for individuals and couples. Sessions are conducted via Google Meet and are available worldwide in English and Spanish. This practice operates within the scope of counselling and psychotherapy as defined by international professional standards for online mental health services.

This practice does not provide psychiatric services, medication management, psychological testing, or crisis intervention. If your situation requires any of these services, you will be referred to the appropriate professional. This is an online-only practice; no in-person sessions are available.

Informed Consent

By booking a session, you acknowledge that you have been informed about the nature, scope, and limitations of psychotherapy as provided by this practice. You understand that psychotherapy involves a collaborative process between therapist and client, that outcomes depend on multiple factors including your engagement and between-session follow-through, and that progress is not guaranteed.

You agree to provide accurate information about your current situation, symptoms, and relevant history. If at any point your case requires services beyond the scope of this practice, you will be informed and referred accordingly.

Confidentiality

All sessions and client information are strictly confidential. No information will be shared with any third party without your explicit written consent, except in cases where disclosure is required by law or where there is an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others. These exceptions are consistent with international ethical standards for psychotherapy practice, including guidelines from the American Psychological Association (APA), the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC).

Session notes and clinical records are maintained securely. Sessions are not recorded unless explicitly agreed upon in writing by both parties.

Online Sessions and Technology

Sessions are conducted via Google Meet. You are responsible for ensuring a stable internet connection and a private, quiet space where you can speak freely without being overheard. While Google Meet provides encrypted communication, no online platform can guarantee absolute security. By using this service, you accept the inherent limitations of technology-mediated communication.

If a session is disrupted by technical issues, reasonable efforts will be made to reconnect. If reconnection is not possible, the session will be rescheduled at no additional cost.

Scheduling and Rescheduling

Sessions are scheduled by mutual agreement. If you need to reschedule a session, you must notify J.R. Hernandez at least 48 hours before the scheduled session time. Rescheduling requests within the 48-hour window will be accommodated only at the therapist's discretion based on availability.

Rescheduled sessions must be completed within the same billing period (for monthly plan clients) or within a reasonable timeframe agreed upon by both parties. Sessions that are not rescheduled within the agreed timeframe are considered used.

Cancellation and No-Show Policy

If you fail to attend a scheduled session without prior notice (no-show), the session is considered used and will be charged in full. Late cancellations (less than 48 hours before the session) are treated the same as no-shows unless exceptional circumstances apply, to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Refund Policy

No refunds are issued for completed sessions. For prepaid plans (Monthly Plan and Burnout Recovery Program), no refunds are issued for sessions already delivered. If you wish to discontinue a prepaid plan before all sessions have been used, remaining sessions may be rescheduled by mutual agreement but are not refundable.

In exceptional circumstances (e.g., extended illness, emergency), alternative arrangements may be discussed on a case-by-case basis. The decision to offer any accommodation rests solely with the therapist.

Payment

Payment is due before or at the time of the session. Accepted payment methods include credit card (via Setmore), PayPal, and bank transfer. For the Burnout Recovery Program, payment may be split into two installments: the first at the start and the second at session six.

Termination of Services

Either party may terminate the therapeutic relationship at any time. If termination is initiated by the therapist, appropriate referrals will be provided. If you decide to discontinue therapy, you are encouraged to discuss this decision in a final session to ensure a proper clinical closure.

Professional Standards

This practice adheres to ethical guidelines consistent with international standards for counselling and psychotherapy, including principles of beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, and fidelity. The therapist maintains ongoing professional development and clinical supervision as appropriate to the scope of practice.
